Els teixits no teixits són àmpliament definits com a fulles o estructures web unides entrellaçades amb fibres o filaments (i per films perforants) mecànicament, tèrmicament o químicament. Són làmines planes i poroses que es fabriquen directament a partir de fibres separades o de film plàstic o plàstic fos. No estan fets per teixir o teixir i no requereixen la conversió de les fibres per filar. En termes comparativament simples, un teixit no es pot descriure com un teixit que té propietats semblants a les tèxtils, que es prepara mitjançant la fixació de fibres junts, en lloc de el mètode tradicional de filar en fils, seguit de teixit.
